Ashland Reservoir in April

I grew up in Marlboro MA but I have been living in Orange Ma the past eight years. So the Millers River, Quabbin Reservoir and other Western MA lakes and ponds have been my fishing holes but I moved to Holliston MA last Fall so it is nice to be back home to fish my old stomping grounds.

Ashland Reservoir was stocked this year the week of March 5th and then again the week of April 9th.The fishing was good but the weather temps changing so much made it a challenge. We had some pretty warm days here in New England in March and April hitting eighty degrees at times. There were time when I took my bass gear with me and caught a few Larry's. I fished by the boat launch on Spring street most of the times I also tried my luck by the damn off Chestnut street. The lake was always busy by the boat launch with anglers taking up most of all the spots that were open to fish from land. I would see a spot open up only to be filled moments later by a new angler arriving

I had the best results for trout in the afternoons from 6:00pm till dusk. My best day was catching my limit within an hour. I also got some results from 11:00am till about 1:00pm. All of the trout caught were stock rainbow's 13 -14 inches in length. I caught the majority of them using Power Bait and the rest on Rooster Tails spinners. I also managed to land a few pickerel while cranking the Rooster Tail.

Hopkinton Reservoir was also stocked the same days of Ashland so that may be my destination today. I also have recently moved to Holliston Ma and I hear that there are a couple of brooks in town that hold trout so I may check that out today. I will let you know how it goes, see ya on the water.
